Typically you can obtain the measurements from your funeral home but in case you need to do it yourself, the best way would be to measure the existing panel insert (which should be a cloth cover rectangular material set into the casket. Measure it's width and height and add 1/8" - 1/4" more total so the fit is tight and will remain in place after it's set in.

Half couch means the casket panel is set into the top part of the body. A full couch means the panel is almost the full body length. Typical casket panels are half couch since during the viewing, the waist up is viewed.
